For this assignment we were asked to film in 3 different locations recording the same audio at each then we were to improve on the first attempts by going back and re filming. After reviewing the footage recorded during this assignment i feel the first attempts at recording we had were a lot more professional than the second attempt at filming, this was mainly due to the equipment used no both occasions i feel we would have had better results if we had used the same kit on the second attempt at filming.
The first attempt at filming we used the colleges PD170's and the sound kits to be used with them, these microphones are different to the first years by the fact their in puts are XLR rather than normal 3.5 jacks that have a tendency to be unreliable and break easily. Which is what really let us down when we filmed for the second time as we used a first year sound kit with Jace's 600D (which only takes 3.5) however everything we recorded was ruined by a constant noise made by the mic lead being broken this made our footage a complete waste as we could barely hear the audio we recorded. This was a real shame as we felt we had done well in terms of eliminating background noise.
as a group i feel we could have worked a lot more efficient as the main issue we ran into was group members not being present and or turning up late, this caused us to waste time waiting for group members an lead to disruptions. when it came to getting paper work done we could have been more organized as we didn't complete all our work before the dead line. however i feel we learnt a valuable lesson which is never use a first year microphone as the issue we encountered is very common with first year microphones.
if i were to do this assignment again i would make sure we kept used both the canon 600D and Sony PD170 at the same time but use the PD170 to record the sound only and use the 600D to shoot visual.

review of second footage.
we looked at the new footage we film unfortunately due to the appalling quality of the 1st year microphones our footage is useless. we eradicated the issues we had before however there is only static and you can barely hear the actors due to the mic.
Due to the issues we encountered during our first attempt at filming we decided to change some of our equipment most noticeable is the camera rather than use the college camera's we used a Canon 600D instead this was because of the higher quality footage we can capture seeing as we can then film in 1080p due to the mic inputs on 600D and PD170 we also had to change our sound kits as well, this proved to be an issue as we had to use a first year sound kit however due the 6.5 jack being near broken our footage contains static throughout the entire captured footage which drowns out almost all the audio.
The equipment we used for the second attempt
- Canon 600D
- First year sound kit
- Second year tripod
