For this project I had to find a two-minute long clip of a
child’s cartoon for this clip I had to completely re-edit the audio for this
clip this included the sound effects and the music track. The cartoon I choose
was from the popular show Tom and Jerry.
My first task I had to do was record the audio in the clip,
this proved to be quite a long winded process and as every footstep or action
that would create a sound had to have audio to it. For such sounds we had the
option of recording them ourselves or finding them on the Internet for these I
mostly used the website (www.freesfx.com) I used this for the sounds I could
not record myself for example the sound of a chair being smashed.
The sounds I recorded my self included voices of the
characters and the sounds of someone getting hit. These were both easy to
record as I recorded them in the class. I also recorded the sounds of footsteps
for the characters however I had to speed these up so they would be in time
with the action. Another sound effect I recorded the sound of someone snoring
The sounds I gathered from the Internet include the backing
music. The sound of chairs smashing and pipes being clanged I also found the
sound of an alarm clock I also gathered some comedic sound effects such as a
comedy slide whistle and fighting noises.
In conclusion I think my project went rather well however I’m
not entirely pleased with my choice of sound effects in some cases for example I
think the punching sounds could be a lot better I also think I could have
edited the music to fit the clip much better however I felt it fitted the clip
well. If I was to redo this project I think
I would have tried to work on it much faster in order to get it done fasted but
also I think I would have not included voice overs as this was difficult to
arrange and where I filmed them in the class room there was a lot of background
noise which difficult to work around.
